Members of the Trident Taskforce have disrupted an alleged drug trafficking syndicate, arresting two men.

A 43-year-old St Albans man was arrested at Melbourne Airport around 10.40pm on Tuesday.

Dimos Melifronides has been charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, possessing a drug of dependence, handling stolen goods and other offences. He has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 31 July.

Another man, a 30-year-old from Caroline Springs, was arrested at an address in Caroline Springs around 7.15am. He has been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs, dealing property suspected to be the proceeds of crime and possession of a firearm.

Following the arrests, members of the Trident Taskforce executed search warrants at three residential addresses at Arroyo Place and Loddon Close in Caroline Springs and Bella Court in St Albans, seizing various items including cash, drugs, computers, jewellery and an assault rifle.

Trident Taskforce is a joint agency taskforce that was established in July 2012, comprising Victoria Police, Australian Federal Police, Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, Australian Transaction Reports & Analysis Centre, Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Crime Commission.

Their focus is to create a hostile environment for organised crime to exist in the maritime environment.
