Greensborough Highway Patrol members are investigating a collision between a cyclist and a car in Heidelberg this morning.

Police have been told the cyclist struck a car at the intersection of Lower Heidelberg Road and Banksia Street about 7.30am.

The cyclist, a 59-year-old Alphington man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The female driver of a gold Ford Laser that was involved in the collision was not injured and assisted police at the scene.

Police believe the driver of a second vehicle that was not involved in the crash stopped to render assistance, but left the scene before police arrived.

Investigators would like to speak with the driver of the second vehicle to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
