A clumsy thief left behind a trail of his own blood for investigators during an early morning burglary of two cafes in Warrandyte earlier this month.
Manningham Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the burglary of two Yarra Street cafes about 2am on Sunday 5 June.
The offender threw a rock through the front door of the first café to gain entry.
The burglar stole a small amount of money which had been left as tips for staff members and then exited the shop.
While entering the second cafe the offender has again smashed the glass door but appears to have cut his left forearm on a piece of glass while entering the shop, resulting in blood being left throughout the shop.
The thief stole two cash registers and a laptop before fleeing.
Forensics experts are in the process of analysing the blood.
Investigators have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak with in relation to the burglaries.
The man is approximately 180cm tall and has a thin build.
He was wearing dark clothing, a head lamp and black runners with bright red or orange shoe laces.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
