Our Say: AFP and Operation Kennels

These comments relate to the sharing of information between the Purana Taskforce’s Operation Kennels investigation into conspiracy to murder and the AFP’s Operation Inca drug investigation.

This is a complex matter and we accept that there will always be delays in the transfer of information between the two organisations given the significant amount of evidence involved.

This includes thousands of hours of telephone and physical surveillance material.

It is reasonable to expect that the priority for the AFP is the compilation of their own brief for Operation Inca.

Following the completion of that brief, all requests from Victoria Police for shared evidence have been met.

Any “difficulty??? in transferring this information between the two organisations relates purely to legislative requirements and logistics, and this process is no different with any other jurisdiction.

All requests are required the go through an official process and Victoria Police has received the AFP’s full cooperation in this regard.

To suggest that a lack of collaboration has undermined the Victoria Police investigation is completely incorrect.

Victoria Police continues to have a strong and cooperative working relationship with the AFP, as evidenced by the recent successful outcome of the joint counter-terrorism investigation Operation Neath.
