With all the issues raised about more police numbers, why doesn’t Victoria Police bring back more Police Reservists or Auxiliary Police Officers? The government opposition proposed recruiting hundreds of Protective Service Officer’s but by using Reservists and Auxiliaries you are actually using Police Officers with full powers.

Response from Victoria Police

If Victoria Police was to use Police Reservists or Auxiliary Police, we would still need to fund these positions, that funding would include the screening, selecting, training and deployment of these positions.

Victoria Police is funded for specific police numbers, regardless of if they were a police member or an auxiliary police officer.

At this point in time, we fill these position with sworn police officers to best meet our needs.
