$1 Million Reward

Announced October 2009

Victoria Police have announced a $1 million reward to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mark Adrian Perry.

Deputy Commissioner Ken Jones said police believe Mr Perry may hold vital information in relation to the 2003 murder of Shane Chartres-Abbott.

"We have taken the step of posting this reward because we are seeking the public's assistance to locate this man" said Deputy Commissioner Jones.

"Someone out there will have contact with him or know of his whereabouts and we are urging them to come forward."

Mr Chartres-Abbott was with his girlfriend and father when they were approached by two men outside his Reservoir home on 4 June 2003. One man assaulted his girlfriend and father while the other man produced a gun and shot Mr Chartres-Abbott at the scene.

It is believed Mr Perry fled Melbourne in September 2007 after becoming aware that police wanted to speak to him in relation to the murder.

Since then he has been unable to be located and it is possible that he is living under an assumed name and may have changed his appearance.

Mr Perry has previously lived in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia and may have fled to either of these states, or another part of Australia.

Another man is currently serving a life sentence in jail after pleading guilty to the murder of Shane Chartres-Abbott in March 2008.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mark Perry is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
