Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in Preston on 23 June.

Police have been told a 35-year-old Preston woman was walking along Wood Street about 11pm when a grey hatchback pulled up near her.

A male exited the car and ran towards the woman, dragging her to the ground and demanding she hand over her backpack.

The victim managed to release the bag before the offender reached into the front pocket of her hoodie, taking her mobile phone.

He then ran back to the waiting vehicle, believed to be a 2000 Nissan Pulsar hatch which sped away towards Laurel Street.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Investigators have released a composite image of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.

The man is perceived as Caucasian in appearance and aged in his late teens to early 20s with dark eyebrows.

He was wearing a black beanie at the time of the incident.

Police have also released CCTV footage of the car and a man seen running from the vehicle.
