The woman, 33, passed away in hospital after a car ran over pedestrians on Bourke Street.
A 33-year old woman is the sixth victim of a vehicle that crashed into pedestrians after it was driven in Melbourne.
The woman, who has not been named yet, died in hospital just before 7.30pm local time on Monday.Three-month-old Zachary Bryant, Thalia Hakin, 10, Matthew Si, Jess Mudie and an unnamed Japanese man were also killed as the car sped through Bourke Street.
37 patients were treated in hospitals after the incident. Ten remain hospitalized, one of whom is in critical condition.
Dimitrious Gargasoulas (26), has been charged with murder on five counts after his car ran over pedestrians in the centre of the city on 20 January.
Victoria Police say that there are “other criminal charges pending”, but they did not confirm Monday night if Gargasoulas would be charged with the sixth murder count.
City of Melbourne announced the news as it planned to remove Bourke Street Memorial on Tuesday morning. The dismantling of the Bourke Street memorial is likely to continue despite the news that a sixth person died.
This week, flowers from the impromptu memorial will be mulched and scattered at a crime victims’ memorial.
The letters and teddy-bears that Victorians, and many visitors to Melbourne, who were there for the Australian Open left behind will be preserved as part of a permanent memorial.
Over $1m was raised to help the families of victims. This includes about $910,000 for the Bourke St Fund.
Angelo Gargasoulas is in the hospital recovering after he was stabbed by his brother on 20 January. This happened 11 hours before the attack.
“Still disbelieving, the reality of it all is yet to fully sink, stay strong Melbourne,” wrote he in a post on Facebook over the weekend.
